A hero’s heart, a soldier’s grace, My Grandpa brought you to my space. A veteran of the Second World War, who saw the good worth fighting for. He introduced a traveling light, A missionary shining bright. A nanny to my aunties back then, you shared the love of Christ with us all as we hosted you.
I still recall the phone ringing clearly, from Chesapeake Bay, you drew so near. You’d speak with Grandpa o’er the wire, and I’d say “hello,” an engineering mind inspired. He sent many students to Drew bible school, on scholarships that grew and grew. That legacy of learning’s fire became my own desire.
As a curious engineering-minded child, I’d ask to know exactly where our roots grew. I’d ask my Grandpa, and we’d all be listening. Grandpa told of our journey from Jewish Ethiopian lands and our culture. Those conversations, rich and deep, are cherished origins I keep true to my ancestral heritage identity.
Through Wednesday bible study and prayer, fasting, and teenage days, You lifted me in prayerful ways. You taught me how to love the holy Bible and cherish every truth I heard. To walk in honesty, keep good company, and flee from sin, with Yeshua and the Holy Spirit deep within. Intentional in all you have shared, through Bible study, love, and prayer.
Then came that day by Chesapeake Bay, inside the church where we could pray together every Sunday. A woman now in tech, I stand, I reached out to hold your faithful hand. I told you of the strength you gave, the seeds you planted, strong and brave. What joy to trace our global friendship, Beneath our Christian family’s sky.
Beloved Jackie, in your eighties now, you still uphold your sacred calling and vows to the Lord, always inspiring us. No thought of rest, no settling down, you wear a servant’s golden crown. You stand with me through every tide, a spiritual and constant guide. Forever serving Christ the Lord, You are a blessing and reward.
I am forever grateful for my journey and the blessed people God sent to invest in my life in tangible, unforgettable ways.
