November 2024 Final Edits

I did not expect it to be easy to write a memoir because a lot is required to truly write from a place of authenticity prayerfully. I started many times, and in other seasons, I placed it on pause, waiting upon the Spirit of God to give me words to articulate my authentic true self, my journey to becoming a successful woman in a tech career that in this year of multiplication offered me a most notable achievement, being appointed a seat on the technology influence board at the British Computer Society, patroned by His Royal Highness Prince Edward of Great Britain.

When the Holy Spirit spoke to me about writing a book, He instructed me to humble myself despite scoring straight A’s in English language classes throughout my education report cards history. I walked in step with the Holy Spirit and found myself offered a partial scholarship at the University of Oxford to take an Advanced Creative Writing class taught by an accomplished classics writer.

It was not easy; in the class, there were already published writers who wanted to write notable classics; others were journalists, and it was an international class with students from all over the world in different creative writing career stages.

There I was, having yet to write any book except tech artifacts on the systems architecture runway, and that was very different because those are complex technical computer programming language artifacts for software engineers.

That class was not for fun; every assignment came back to me with red markings of feedback after almost every sentence from my dedicated writing teacher.

She was honest and still applauded me when I learned, improved, and wrote well, and by the time I got certified, I was confident enough to manifest my writing talents prayerfully.

When I Got Certified, I felt Helped By The Holy Spirit!

Writing My Books Motives?

Still the same throughout my life: Just Like Jesus!

John 8:29: “The Father has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him”

I will never forget my formative years; I was in elementary school and attended the Good Shepherd Church on Ngong Road, across the street from my childhood home, where I grew up.

Every time I am in Kenya, I try to visit that church and go to Yaya Center shopping mall for lunch. As I’ve been writing my book, my writing class alumnus reminded me the value of remembering childhood memories, no matter how life has since changed.

At the church, Mrs Fortescue, a missionary and our Sunday School teacher, would meet with us on Saturday afternoons to prepare us for Sunday service Scripture memory verse presentations; she’d sing with us, play her guitar, and read to us children’s bibles.

She’d taught us how to write biblical Christmas verse messages using a fountain pen during the Christmas season. Those days, it was a “quill” fountain pen that she used to teach us how to scribble sweet messages on manilla paper craft handmade cards for our family members in Sunday school.

I loved writing using a fountain pen, and that started me on a journey of writing English prose because I liked how my calligraphy looked when my fountain pen writings dried on the paper,
