The Unbreakable Covenant: Memory, Justice, Standing With Israel

The historical trajectory of the Jewish people is a central pillar of the biblical text, yet it is shadowed by the stark, historical reality of antisemitism. This hatred—culminating in the catastrophic events of the Jewish Holocaust, or the Shoah—requires a response deeply grounded in scripture.

To truly grasp the biblical narrative, we must first confront the darkest chapters of this history, recognizing the moral imperative of memory, before we can fully understand the immutable nature of the divine covenant, the reality of divine judgment, and Israel’s sovereign right to defend its existence.

The Imperative of Memory and the Sin of Holocaust Denial

The horrific realities of the Holocaust require a confrontation with theodicy. Scripture addresses the depths of human anguish not by looking away, but by commanding the deliberate preservation of historical memory as a primary bulwark against future atrocities.

“Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen… but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons.” (Deuteronomy 4:9)

Lexical analysis of this ancient text emphasizes the critical necessity of personal vigilance. The failure to pass down historical memory leads directly to a generation uniquely susceptible to hostile environments and spiritual catastrophe; memory, therefore, serves as the ultimate defense mechanism.

Consequently, the contemporary behavior of Holocaust denial is not merely an exercise in historical revisionism—it is a profound moral and theological sin.

Hebrew legislation was distinctly designed to forbid the highly injurious practice of spreading false reports to harm others, commanding, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20:16).

The Book of Proverbs takes this further, explicitly linking the act of systemic, deliberate lying with the physical act of murder:

“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood…” (Proverbs 6:16-17)

In the eyes of the Divine, there is no distinction in hatred between the “lying tongue” and the “hands that shed innocent blood.”

Holocaust denial is the exact behavior where the lying tongue is utilized to obscure, or lay the groundwork for the future shedding of innocent blood. It is a profound abomination that paves the way for the repetition of history’s darkest hours.

Genesis 12:3: The Foundational Promise

Genesis 12:3—the foundational text for the promise, “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee”—provides a look at the relationship between God, Abraham, and the rest of the world.

  • A Mysteriously Close Relationship The phrase “I will bless…” establishes an unbreakable, deeply personal bond between God and Abraham’s lineage.

Shared Friends and Enemies: These words indicate relations mysteriously close between Jehovah and Abram, whereby the friends and enemies of the one become so equally to the other. To bless Abraham and his descendants is to align oneself with God, and therefore, to receive God’s favor in return.

  • A Crucial Linguistic Distinction on “Cursing” Notable observations in this passage involve the second half of the verse: “and curse him that curseth thee.” There is a difference between the two Hebrew verbs used for “curse” in this sentence:
    • Treating Lightly vs. Judicial sentencing: The first word used for human action signifies “to treat lightly and contemptuously” or to revile. The second word, used for God’s response, means “to pronounce a curse, usually in a judicial manner.”
    • The Translation: The Hebrew translation of God’s warning is: “I will curse—pass a sentence of rejection upon—him that speaketh lightly of, or revileth thee.” This highlights that even casual contempt or dismissive hostility toward Israel triggers a severe, formal judicial rejection by God.

This was not just a promise of geopolitical protection, but the establishment of a divine proxy: God identifies so closely with Israel that He takes their treatment personally, judging their detractors while positioning the nation as the ultimate conduit to bless all of humanity.

The Irrevocable Covenant & Refuting Replacement Theology

The survival of the Jewish people through the fires of the Shoah is ultimately anchored in the immutable promises of God. For centuries, the theological error of Replacement Theology has posited that the Church has replaced national Israel spiritually. The biblical text, however, explicitly repudiates this heresy and establishes the absolute permanence of the covenant.

“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” (Romans 11:29)

The Apostle Paul clarifies that because of the “election,” the Jewish people remain profoundly “beloved” by God for the sake of the calling of the patriarchs, specifically Father Abraham. The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable; they are not subject to withdrawal.

To illustrate the unbreakable nature of this covenant, the Prophet Jeremiah points to the immutable laws of astrophysics:

“Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night… If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.” (Jeremiah 31:35-36)

The stability of the cosmos serves as a divine pledge—an earnest guarantee of the fulfillment of promises to Israel as a people. As long as the physical laws of the universe operate, the national identity of Israel cannot be annulled.

Yeshua’s Enduring Love for His Jewish Family

A comprehensive reading of the New Testament emphasizes the deep, intrinsic love Jesus Christ (Yeshua) harbored for His Jewish kinsmen. He consistently prioritized their spiritual welfare and expressed profound grief over their suffering.

“He said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matthew 15:24)

His primary mission during His earthly ministry was directed toward His beloved Jewish people, wherever they were dispersed and lost.

On the Mount of Olives, Yeshua established the exact metric by which the nations of the world will ultimately be judged:

“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:40)

When nations or individuals demonstrate kindness to a persecuted Jew, they are ministering directly to Yeshua. Conversely, the horrors inflicted upon the Jewish people are treated by heaven as horrors inflicted upon the person of Christ Himself.

Divine Retribution Against Israel’s Enemies

Because of this profound identification with His people, the scriptures unequivocally detail the severe divine judgment awaiting nations and individuals who persecute or seek to annihilate the Jewish community.

“For thus saith the LORD of hosts… he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” (Zechariah 2:8)

The “apple of his eye” represents the pupil, the most sensitive and vital organ of the human body. To strike the Jewish people is to thrust a finger directly into the eye of God, an act that guarantees an immediate and proportionate divine retaliation.

The prophet Joel expands upon this coming judgment:

“I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.” (Joel 3:2)

The name Jehoshaphat signifies “the valley where Jehovah judgeth.” The nations are condemned because they stripped the Jewish people of their humanity. This cruelty brings swift, reciprocal retaliation from God for the wrongs inflicted upon Israel.

The Sovereign Right to Defense

Recognizing this history of persecution and divine protection, the biblical narrative provides a robust theological framework validating the right of the Jewish people—and the modern State of Israel—to defend its existence against hostile forces.

“When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.” (Deuteronomy 32:8)

God, in His sovereign providence, disposed of the lands and limits of the various peoples specifically to reserve a sufficient place for the children of Israel.

Israel’s geographical existence is not a historical accident; it is a foundational, pre-ordained element of the global geopolitical order.

When the Jewish people faced an imminent threat of extermination in antiquity, Nehemiah’s response established a timeless principle of justified self-defense:

“And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles… Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.” (Nehemiah 4:14)

This call to arms is a sober, moral charge to guard against unprovoked aggression. It clearly demonstrates that reliance on God is not mutually exclusive with armed resistance intended to protect life and family from the wicked.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.” (Psalm 122:6)

To pray for the peace of Jerusalem is to actively seek its welfare, its security, and the preservation of the populace residing within its walls.

True peace in a fractured world often requires the strength to deter aggression. Supporting Israel’s right to security is the practical outworking of loving Jerusalem.

Ultimately, the biblical perspective demands an unwavering recognition of Israel’s enduring covenantal status, a strong dedication to historical truth regarding Jewish suffering, and steadfast, unapologetic support for the nation’s right to exist and defend itself securely against all adversaries.

A Prayer of Repentance and Solidarity

Lord Yeshua, Lion of the tribe of Judah, We approach You with humbled hearts. We recognize You as our Savior and as a Jewish man, born of the seed of David, who loves His people with an everlasting love. We come before You today to intercede for the broader Church, seeking Your mercy and a transformation of hearts regarding the historical sins committed by extremists and pundits who claim Your name.

Lord, we lift up those who read about and perpetuate the heresy of Replacement Theology. We ask that You would forgive their prideful assumptions. We pray for a widespread awakening, that believers everywhere will renounce arrogant theology and continue to embrace the truth that the State of Israel maintains irrevocable covenantal promises. For those whose faith fails to honor the ancient olive tree, we ask that You wash their minds of these falsehoods and ground them wholly in the truth of Your unbreakable word.

We mourn the catastrophic history of antisemitism, Lord. We ask Your mercy on Christians who have remained silent in the face of Jewish suffering. We pray for an end to the global mistreatment of the Jewish people today—we ask You to push back the tide of hostility, silence the false witness borne against them in propaganda, and awaken the nations that are in apathy.

You taught us that whatever is done to Your brothers and sisters is done to You. Open the eyes of believers worldwide to see the Jewish people as Your earthly family. Break the heart of the global Church for what breaks Yours. Let all who claim Your name recognize that when Your people are persecuted, mocked, or threatened, it is a strike against the apple of God’s eye. Replace historical indifference within the body of Christ with a protective love for Your kin.

Empower us, and believers everywhere, by Your Spirit to be a bulwark against antisemitism in all its forms. Give Your people the courage to speak the truth, to comfort Your earthly family, and to unapologetically defend Israel’s right to exist in safety and peace. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem, the physical protection of Jewish communities worldwide, and the continuous healing of centuries-old wounds.

In Your holy and matchless name, Yeshua, we pray.

AMEN

We dismantle Replacement Theology, confront the history of antisemitism, and offer a powerful intercessory prayer of solidarity for Yeshua’s earthly family.
